If You Haven’t Been to a FABSCRAP Workshop, Do You Even Mend?
You don't want to miss this one!
Welcome to Better Together’s bi-weekly newsletter, where we believe that the more we work together, the greater impact we can have! Stemming from the merger of FABSCRAP and Reclypt, a significant step for the future of circular fashion in NYC, this newsletter encourages and provides a platform for the industry and consumers to be better together.
Yes, I’m talking to you - why haven’t you been to a FABSCRAP workshop yet?!
Excuses I’ll accept:
I don’t live/work in NYC
That’s about it.
All jokes aside, our workshop on Monday is one you won’t want to miss AND, more importantly, this is THE time for community organizing (more on the latter below).
Monday 3/31 @ 6p - VISIBLE MENDING WORKSHOP!
Learn & practice basic skills to patch holes, cover stains, and/or add embellishments + gain a better understanding of the importance of mending for system change!
We’re learning to mend from the women who literally wrote the book on mending!
BRING YOUR OWN TO-BE-MENDED or USE FABSCRAP MENDABLES!
All skill & experience levels-welcome. Beginner friendly!
This is more important than you may think: mending is a natural site of political organizing. While this doesn’t mean that all menders are explicitly making resistance crafts or engaged in direct action when they craft, it by nature contains the seeds of collective resistance*.
In addition to building skills, this workshop aims to educate and engage the growing mending community about the importance of mending for system change. From analyzing history, exploring techniques, understanding its matriarchal lineage, and more, we aim to support our community members to make and trust your own choices for positive change.

Can someone try this company that mends your knits & tell me how it goes?!
New Yorkers: Time is running out to call your local assembly member about the NY Heat Act
Fashion could take notes from NY’s Packaging Reform Bill
Jessica Schreiber, Founder of FABSCRAP, will be stepping down from her role as CEO, effective July 2025.
Still waiting for Vogue to walk to the walk, BUTthey’re not wrong that 2025 is a big year for sustainable fashion events
My advice: create your own events. These events smell greenwashy - I mean COP 30 is LITERALLY cutting down the Amazon Rainforest to build roads.
📰 What We’re Reading
“BOOK CLUB”
[video] Last week, we had the privilege of speaking with Alden Wicker about the hidden truths of the fashion industry written so well in her book, To Dye For. From the extensive use of chemicals in clothing to the lack of regulations, Alden shed light on the health risks that often go unnoticed. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed navigating the fashion world’s impact on health, people, and the environment, this conversation is for you. Tune in to gain practical tips on making informed choices and discover how small decisions can lead to lasting impact.

“SORT-A-THON”
If you know, you know. If you don’t, I’m SO excited to tell you all about it!
Next Saturday, April 5th, over 200 volunteers will help FABSCRAP sort for 12 hours! Our goal is 3,000 pounds and we are felling GOOD about it. Spots filled up within like 3 days so if you’re unable to sort please consider donating. We will be feeding and hydrating ~250 people and every little bit helps!
$5 is a meal with water for 2 people 🍕
$10 gets us mixers for the Sip & Sort session 🍹
$25 provides coffee for our team ☕ (remember, this is a 12 hour event)
You should donate/share with someone who can if you’ve:
Called yourself an activist/advocate
Approached me at a gathering saying how much you love this newsletter

'“CONSUMED”
Announcing our next Book Club selection! Not only is this book so well written but it captures the nuances, elephant(s)-in-the-room, and actionable steps to challenge the fashion industry to do better. It’s sassy. It’s serious. It’ll open your eyes even if you’ve been in sustainable fashion (or something similar) for years. I’ve read this book twice and am SO excited to read it again. Cannot reccomend enough. Save the date - we’re talking about it June 18th!
