TEXTILE INTENSIVE
*I’m REALLY excited for this*
FABSCRAP put together a 2-day intensive hands-on course to help the everyday person better understand the fabric we live in.
I’ve said this for a while, the only way to a “sustainable wardrobe” is by knowing your fabric. This includes, but is not limited to, knowing how fabrics are made - fiber type (i.e. natural or synthetic) & weave type (plain twill or knitted) - what happens at their end of life, and better understanding the monster that is the textile industry.
Join us to learn hands-on skills and current industry knowledge to improve your confidence in textile identification. Our goal is to help people who wear clothes make informed, environmentally responsible decisions, while evaluating recyclability, durability, and performance to support circular systems.
YAP & SORT
Exactly what it sounds like. Every month, we’ll bring in a community leader for a casual conversation while we sort through textile waste for reuse and recycling. In January, we’re excited to dive deeper into Black Girls Sew w/founder Hekima Hapa!
A long time supporter of FABSCRAP, Hekima is the definition of a community leader! I personally can’t wait to chat with her, then listen to the audiences’ (you!) Q&A.
Limited spots available.
WEBINARS
Learn more about FABSCRAP, from our community! Each month we’ll virtually chat with a community member about various aspects of FABSCRAP. In January, we’re discussing headers!
Fabric headers comprise an estimated 75% of the pre-consumer textile waste received by FABSCRAP. We’ll be diving into what they are, why there are so many, and what does FABSCRAP do with them w/ Geoffrey Gertz (Interim Co-Dean | School of Fashion @ Parsons).
Join us for the hour to learn and ask your questions!
Thanks, as always, for your support! Leave a comment with the community leaders and/or topics you’d want us to cover in future events : )
