Welcome to Reclypt’s bi-weekly newsletter, the place where you learn how we create change in the circular economy (even if you don’t know what that is). If you want to make a difference, this is the only newsletter you need.
🌀 Clothing Swap + Discussion Wednesday 7/10
If you’re reading this, you probably have opinions on clothing swaps. This accessible, inexpensive, and easy practice has been popping up all over. Sometimes, there’s multiple in one day, for better or worse.
Join us on Wednesday, July 10th, to discuss how we can work together to improve swaps, share tips, and SWAP!
We’re meeting at a swap shop, talking swaps, & swapping! While everyone arrives and drops their swappables, you’ll mingle and enjoy light refreshments. While the swap is being organized, we’ll dive into a guided group discussion on how to improve swaps in NYC! Then, it’s swap time! The evening will end with informal sharing of swap stories, tips, & tricks, making connections, & building community!

📰 What We’re Reading
“ANTICAPITALIST”
Fashion is political. From the red carpets of the Met Gala to online fast fashion and the clothes at Costco, fashion tell a story of inequality, racism and climate crisis. July’s Book of the month, The Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion, by Tansy Hoskins, unpicks the threads of capitalist industry to reveal the truth about our clothes. We’ll be discussing this book and it’s themes on July 25th at our Sustainable Style Club! Reading is not required to join, this meet-up is a time to join the discussion around circular fashion, and meet new people! In keeping with the anticapitalistic theme, we’ve dropped the price, will be meeting at a public park in NYC, and encouraging attendees to bring food/drink to share! See you Thursday 7/25 @ 6p in Madison Sq Park!

NUDITY
Fun Fact: The Pastie emerged as a way for strippers and burlesque performers to circumvent cabaret laws. Read more and listen in on this episode of Articles of Interest as it dives deeper into the question, “Why wear clothes at all?” And truly, whatever degree of discomfort you might have, it’s another layer around fashion and style. Cannot recommend listening to this podcast enough!
